Headstone, Cruise & Luke

Today some of our family went to visit Ruby’s grave to look at her new headstone.

They sent pictures and I am so pleased with the way it turned out.

The only thing they couldn’t do was put her initials in the heart on the tree, it was too small.

I wish this was something that we weren’t even dealing with, but I am glad we have something to visit and decorate.

I think it represents her well (after a million sketches and phrases I think we decided on the right one).

Here is my sketch:

Here is the actual headstone:

Jared and I booked our anniversary cruise this week for November and we are so excited to go.

We really need a vacation just the two of us.

I know Luke will be in good hands at my parent’s house.

We will be going to the Eastern Caribbean.

I just wish we could take a big trip like this every year for our anniversary.

Maybe one day…

All about Luke:

I haven’t done a post like this in a long time and I feel I need to document some of the things Luke is doing/saying/into.

* He loves Curious George. If he gets to choose something to watch on TV, it will be Curious George every time.

* He will say, “I miss you, too, mom” out of the blue. He likes to use this at bedtime when he doesn’t want me to go. Melt my heart.

* He has been sleeping in his toddler bed for a couple weeks and has been doing awesome. He doesn’t get out of bed and he sleeps through the night.

* He loves to use the word sure. “Luke, will you go get your shoes on?” “SURE!”

* His new phrase is: “What doing?” He will ask me about 20 times a day, what doing, mom?

* He still says why and what after everything.

* He is still VERY ticklish.

* He loves to tease, wrestle and play hide and seek.

* He pretends he is choo choo Buzz Lightyear (Buzz in Toy Story 3 when he saves the train) all day.

* He has to have a measuring cup full of cereal and a cup of black (chocolate) milk while watching a cartoon in the morning.

* He is still my routine little boy and everything has an order and a system to it.

* He loves to talk on the phone now that we have a landline with an old school phone. He thinks it’s pretty cool.

* He loves to read books. His favorite right now is Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

* He can count to ten.

* He says oopsie daisy and whoopsy a lot (he must be listening to me).

* He sings the ABC’s, Popcorn Popping, You’ve Got a Friend in Me, and You are My Sunshine, on a daily basis.

* He is learning and saying new words all the time.

* He loves puzzles and can do them my himself.

* He gives the best hugs and kisses.

  2. The headstone looks beautiful. Very lovely.

Where, exactly, are you going on your cruise? St. Thomas, St. John? My husband (also a Luke) and I have been on so many and have enjoyed all of them! After an amazing stop in St. Thomas one year we decided to rent a villa with some friends for a week because we just loved the island. Gorgeous!

Luke sounds absolutely precious....and smart!! My son, Alex loves Buzz Lightyear too. And I don't know about you, but at the end of Toy Story 3, I cry every single time. When Andy's mom cries in his room because he's going to college? Not kidding, I'm getting choked up just thinking about it!!

    1. We are going to St. Thomas. I have been to St. Maarten and Saba, but never St. Thomas. What do you recommend doing over there? We are up for any suggestions.

  3. LOVE how you designed ruby's headstone! So sweet and beautiful! Look hearing about Luke's stages, it brings back floods of memories when Lincoln was doing a lot of the same things, and how he still is haha.

  7. Really the headstone is great. How fun you are taking a cruise. We are doing southern carribean next month. It is always good to document all the things the kiddos are doing. I love to look back and read them.
