Sister Wives

I am quite fascinated by anyone who lives a different lifestyle than me.

I love watching, reading, or speaking with anyone who has a different view on the world.

It educates me and also helps confirm and solidify what my beliefs are.

When I was living in San Diego and working full-time, I was the only one who was a member of my church amongst 120 employees.

It sparked quite a few questions about my beliefs and we had good conversations about what they believed.

It was always a positive experience and I am always intrigued by what drives people in this life.

Anyway, one show that I have liked watching is Sister Wives.

Anyone watch it?

It truly fascinates me and I love learning about the polygamy relationships.

It’s made me think about whether or not I could ever live this lifestyle.

At first I thought, besides sharing my husband (I am enough for him to handle as is), it would be nice to have extra adult hands around the house to help out.

Always someone around to watch the kids if needed.

Someone to help cook dinner and share the workload/chores around the house.

That part I thought I would for sure like.

However, I felt like I got a little taste of what it would be like when I was staying in Utah over the summer.

Both my sisters where there as well and most days we ended up at my parents home as the common meeting place.

Most times it was always complete chaos there.

It wasn’t like we had a lot of kids either (6 between the three of us), but it sure felt like it.

Three adults in a kitchen trying to figure out what everyone wanted to eat.

Bath time had an assembly line.

One mom would wash and rinse, one mom would dry off and comb hair, while the other mom would get them dressed.

Did I mentioned what it was like the night we decided to take family pictures?

Getting ourselves ready plus six kids with 2 bathrooms plus mouths feed before the sun went down was nothing short of a miracle.

Not to mention the logistics of everything we do. Who’s riding with who? Who’s cooking what and when? Rearranging cribs and beds so everyone has a place to sleep.

It wore me right on out.

I don’t think I am cut out for it at all.

While it was nice having extra hands to help, there were also extra kids to help.

I guess I am just use to quiet days with just me and Luke.

I don’t think I will be getting a sister wife anytime soon.

There is a new showing coming on TLC called Breaking Amish.

I am excited to start watching this series as well.

This is one lifestyle that really fascinates me.

Although, I know the Amish lifestyle isn’t for me, you better believe I have my DVR set to record.

  1. I love it! It's so interesting how doing everything for one kid can be easier than doing one thing for six kids. I loved this post! And I can't wait for Breaking Amish either! :)

  2. Polygamy is interesting. A good friend of mine was raised polygamists. At one time there were 3 sister wives. In fact Robyn is her half sister. I love to talk to her about it. She is so open. Being raise like that has made her so open minded which is one of the things I love most about her. That being said, not for me.

  3. It will be fun to go to Amish country when you visit. I am intrigued by others also. Being a sister wife... not for me. I learned that lesson while in UT also. Love you guys.
