San Juan, Puerto Rico

After leaving Grand Turk we made it to Puerto Rico about 1:30pm the next day.

As we made our way off the ship there were a lot of taxis and buses offering to take us on a city tour.

We decided to hop on one of the buses to see the city.

I am so glad we decided to do this, it was a lot of fun and a great way to see the city..

The bus driver narrated the whole time and it was pretty interesting listening to the history.

After our bus tour we had booked a restaurant dinner tour that started later that night.

This was by far my favorite part of the whole cruise.

In fact, San Juan was by far my favorite stop.

We met our tour guide who started the tour by giving us more history of Old San Juan.

As we walked to our first restaurant she talked about the different buildings, cultures, and politics of San Juan.

The first restaurant we went to was called Aromas.

It is owned by the cousin to Ricky Martin, they made sure we were aware of that.

We started our dinner by enjoying appetizers and a Pina Colada.

We forgot to take a picture, but it was fried plantains with papaya dipping sauce and fried chicken fingers (we quickly found out they are REALLY into deep frying in Puerto Rico).

We made our way on foot to the next restaurant, Carli’s, while we listened to more history.

The second stop served more appetizers with a Mojito drink.

The appetizers were amazing at this place. It was a set of three appetizers.

The first was a crab cake (deep fried) with a spicy mayo, second was a fried plantain with a scallop and shrimp cooked only in lime juice, and third was a pumpkin cake (deep fried).

Delish.

We made our way on foot again to the third restaurant called, Rosa De Triana.

Some of the restaurant was in part of the old tunnels in San Juan.

This place served us our main course which was Mofongo.

It was SOOOO good.

I would go back to Puerto Rico just for this.

Jared and I made sure to get second helpings on this one.

On our way to the last place we saw the smallest apartment in the world.

Definitely gave me claustrophobia.

The apartment is just the yellow building.

The last stop was for dessert at a place called, Cafe La Princesa.

It was a restaurant outside where we sat and listened to the tree frogs.

They served a bread pudding that was so good.

I wouldn’t called it a bread pudding though because I am usually not a fan, but this was so yummy.

They also served Puerto Rican coffee which we didn’t try because we don’t drink coffee (or alcohol).

When we asked for our drinks to be non-alcoholic everyone thought we were nutso, but they were still really tasty to us.

We ended the night by walking back to our boat while doing a little shopping at street vendors.

It was so much fun and I would highly recommend doing a tour like this.

I guess I loved it because I love food.

In Puerto Rico we also got cell phone coverage so I got to talk to Luke that night.

It was so good to hear his voice.

He asked me to bring him back a surprise.

I asked what he wanted and he told me he wanted Percy the choo choo train.

I couldn’t let him down so instead of bringing him back something authentic and from the Caribbean we had to stop at Walmart on our way home to make sure he got his choo choo train.

That boy is one spoiled child.

  2. Although we made several stops to Puerto Rico on our way to Saba, I have never seen anything other then the airport. Now I am intrigued. Thanks for the fun tour. It looks like a blast.
