Jared and I decided we needed a little vacation.
With Jared being so busy with work it’s hard to get away so we decided to do a weekend staycation.
The kids went to stay with my sister, Andrea, in Logan and were taken good care of.
We started the weekend on Friday night going to dinner at Pei Wei then hitting a play at the Sandy Amphitheater.
We saw Shrek, the musical.
It was so cute, but I kept thinking the whole time Luke would love this!
We stayed at a hotel in Salt Lake to make it feel more like a vacation.
The next day we did a SLC food tour.
We ate at 6 different places in Salt Lake walking to each one and hearing about the history of the buildings along the way.
It was a ton of fun, especially because we never really make it up to Salt Lake to eat, even though we live close.
The tour started at the Lion House with their yummy rolls with honey butter.
The next stop was Maxwell’s where we had two different kinds of pizza.
The crust is suppose to taste just like New York style crust, although I don’t have anything to compare it to.
This was a little stop along the way at the Newhouse building that use to be a bank.
Supposedly these doors are the most photographed doors in SLC.
However, I think the SLC temple doors might have these ones beat.
Then we headed to Market Street Grill for their famous clam chowder and sourdough bread.
The next place was Squatters for a taste of their famous Brigham’s Brew Rootbeer.
We took some home for Luke to taste.
Caputo’s was the next place we went to for chocolate tasting.
We tried all different kinds of expensive dark and milk chocolate.
All of which were delicious.
They had a live Jazz band playing in house and we walked around the store seeing all the fun food items they sell.
They also have 2 cheese caves where cheese is stored to process until ready to sell.
At this point I was stuffed, but we had one last stop at Bruge’s Waffles.
We taste tested their famous Liege waffle with strawberries.
So yummy!
After the food tour we went to City Creek Mall to do some shopping.
Mo Money, Mo Problems.
Saturday night we had arranged to go to a paint pARTy at Rustic Mountain Art.
You send in a photograph and they transfer it on wood for you to paint over.
Kind of like a paint by number.
The owners, who are artists, are there to give pointers.
We each painted a pic of one of the boys.
This ended up being Jared’s favorite part of the weekend even though he wasn’t very excited to go.
It was so cool to see how everyone’s turned out.
Here is my final product:
I think this is something we would both do again.
We ended the weekend with a late dinner and a movie.
Trying to fit everything in that we could sans kids.
It was a great weekend.
I think we need to do it more often.
There is still a lot more of SLC we need to see.
What a fun vacation! And i love the pictures you guys painted. How fun!
