Mother’s Day

I had a great Mother’s Day weekend.

Jared, unfortunately, was out of town (again) until Sunday afternoon.

It’s tradition to go to Kneader’s the day before Mother’s Day to get French Toast and I decided to keep the tradition and brave the crowd with my two wild boys because I’m just that crazy.

It actually was a pleasant breakfast.

The boys were good and it was a delicious.

We spent the rest of the day hanging out and running errands.

The next morning Luke carried on the tradition of Mother’s Day breakfast in bed.

He made me stay in bed while he went downstairs to get some things ready.

I didn’t know what to expect, but when he reappeared he had a tray with a flower picture he made at preschool, a colored, cutout heart, and a pile of grapes.

He said, “Sorry, mom, grapes were the only thing I could reach. Do you love them?”

I did more than he realized.

It was so very sweet and thoughtful.

We then went to church where we heard uplifting messages about mothers and their influence.

All the women were given a book and treated to a slice of cheesecake.

When we got home from church Jared was back from his trip and spoiled me again with gifts.

This was the only picture I got:

He also gave me a shirt, lip gloss, lots of treats, a gift card to Nordstrom, a gift certificate to get a massage and my favorite present- a gift certificate for house cleaning.

He really did a great job with his gifts to me, as usual.

We spent the rest of the day visiting with our moms and family.

One gift I gave our moms/grandmas was cookies that I decorated.

It was my first time using royal icing and although it took a long time I think they turned out pretty good.

I’m so grateful for the women in my life and the example they are to me.

A friend said this not too long ago, “Being a mom is SO hard, but the love, the love is SO easy.

It truly is the hardest thing I have ever done and thankfully my kids are so forgiving of my shortcomings.

“If you think my hands are full, you should see my heart”.

My heart is so full of love for these little people.

Even though the days are long, I know the years will be short.

I know it’s not my personality to try to love EVERY SINGLE  MOMENT of each day of parenting, because let’s be honest, it’s really hard to love the tantrum phase.

However, I’m trying really hard to pinpoint the moments in each day that make it all worth it.

Those are the moments that I think of at night and saver.

I read this quote the other day that I loved and felt like I related so much to it:

“We live in a culture of relentless self-improvement, steeped in the rhetoric of “happiness”.  We’re supposed to be so”happy” all the time or we’re failing somehow. I’m much more interested in meaning than happiness. Adversity has shaped me and made me strong. It’s given me the family and the life I have today which is amazing.” -Jillian Lauren

And now something to make all you mommies laugh:

Happy Mother’s Day to all my favorite mamas out there:
